Not all checkboxes below will be relevant to all organizations.

Common Questions & Misconceptions

This sounds great for Downtown Asheville, but we don’t have public transit (or bike lanes, or…) in my area.”
FALSE! All 100 counties in NC have public transit. And you don’t have to be in an urban area to benefit from multimodal programming. Carpool matching is a big piece of the pie for our rural employers and campuses.

This sounds like a lot of work for our organization.”
FALSE! Go Mountain does the heavy lifting, you get the credit. After the initial certification process, this can be a hands-on collaboration or just an infrequent check-in, depending on what you want the program to look like at your org.

“What if my organization applies, but we don’t even meet the minimum requirements to hit Bronze?”
Don’t worry! That’s what we’re here for. Go Mountain will sit down with you at the on-site consultation and help create a roadmap to get your org where it wants to be. You’ll still unlock all the free benefits of the program, even if you’re just an honorable mention. The application is the first step to move toward a multimodal culture shift, and these things take time.

“What if my organization has multiple locations across the region?”
The application is site-based. It’s best to choose a primary location and answer the application questions based on that one place. You are welcome to fill out the application more than once if you want each site to be certified individually.

This application is overwhelming. We don’t have time for this right now.”
If you have any questions about the application, please reach out to sandy@landofsky.org. We’re happy to talk through it, or even sit down and fill out the application together over the phone. This program partnership starts right now, when you reach out.

Ready to apply? A few of the checkboxes below have a “+” beside them. Definitions for these less-familiar terms can be found at the bottom of the page, below the application submit button.

Definitions

+High Quality Bike Rack: In general, a high quality bike rack is mounted to the ground, supports the bike upright at two points along a horizontal plane, and does not require the user to lift their bike up in order to lock to it. For a deeper dive on bicycle parking best practices, please see this guide from the Association of Pedestrian & Bicycle Professionals.

++Emergency Ride Home Program: These programs can look different at different organizations, but generally it is a way to guarantee that your employees or students who choose multimodal transportation will not be stranded if something goes wrong or an emergency arises. It often looks like reimbursement for using Uber or Lyft a few times per year.

+++Share the Ride NC: Share the Ride NC is a statewide ride-matching program that makes it easier to find other people to carpool with, whether for a daily commute or a one-time trip.

++++Commuter Club: an club for your employees, students, or customers, (organized internally), to encourage multimodal transportation through a variety of programs and incentives. If you would like to consult about how to start a commuter club at your workplace or campus, please reach out to Go Mountain.
